The regular winter visit to the Hashil school happened
during the latter part of December 2005 and into January 2006. Accompanying
Board President, Muhammad Islam and his wife, Monwara, were Marie Noorani
and her daughter, Sofia, and her son, Adam. Following is an update from
their trip and what has been happening at the school. |
 |
-
Three more computers were hand carried from Richland
to Hashil – all laptops. All three are currently being used at the school.
-
Six teachers did not return for the current school
year. Meanwhile, existing teacher and classroom assignments have been
re-aligned for the short-term loss of the teachers. We are actively
pursuing new teachers.
-
Our retention rate for students of all grades still
remains at 95% or higher.
-
Teacher salaries were adjusted upward by
approximately 40% to bring their salaries in line with that of other
schools in the area.
Marie Noorani met with the teaching staff and discussed
strategies for designing lessons that address higher level thinking skills
and provided some instruction in using computers and reference software that
she brought with her.
Sofia and Adam took with them lots of intellectual
games which the students enjoyed. Adam’s legos were a huge hit with the
students! These remain at the school. Thank you Sofia and Adam!
The Noorani’s experience with the Hashil Schools was
featured in the February 4th Tri-City Herald.
As a supporter of POPEF, know that you are making a
difference in the lives of hundreds of families. A testimony of this is
stated very well by Marie Noorani in the attachment.
